History

The department was created in 2023, when energy and climate policy were moved out of the former business department into a department of their own.

Role

DESNZ makes sure the country has enough secure and affordable energy, sets the rules for the energy market, supports new power stations and renewable energy, and leads the government's plans to reach net zero.

Positions

In UKOGB the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero is run by members who hold its posts on the website. Its head is the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, who can edit the organisation's page, appoint people to its other roles and speak for it in public. The current holders are shown in the box on this page and on the organisation's page on the website, and each post brings its own Discord roles and website permissions.
