History

The department took its present form in 2002. Its decisions on major projects, such as new railways, roads and runways, often shape the country for generations.

Role

The DfT plans and pays for new transport schemes, runs the railways through its contracts with operators, sets the rules for drivers and vehicles, and regulates aviation and shipping safety.

Positions

In UKOGB the Department for Transport is run by members who hold its posts on the website. Its head is the Secretary of State for Transport, who can edit the organisation's page, appoint people to its other roles and speak for it in public. The current holders are shown in the box on this page and on the organisation's page on the website, and each post brings its own Discord roles and website permissions.
