History

The National Health Service was founded in 1948 to provide care free at the point of use, paid for from taxes, and remains one of the country's most valued institutions. The department took its present name in 2018, when social care was added to its title.

Role

The DHSC sets health policy and funds the NHS, which runs hospitals, GP surgeries and ambulance services. It is also responsible for public health, from vaccination to fighting disease, and for the care of older and disabled people.

Positions

In UKOGB the Department of Health and Social Care is run by members who hold its posts on the website. Its head is the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, who can edit the organisation's page, appoint people to its other roles and speak for it in public. The current holders are shown in the box on this page and on the organisation's page on the website, and each post brings its own Discord roles and website permissions.
