The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is responsible for the defence of the United Kingdom and for the armed forces: the Royal Navy, the British Army and the Royal Air Force. It is led by the Secretary of State for Defence.
History
The modern Ministry of Defence was formed in 1964, when the separate ministries for the three armed services were joined into one department. Its headquarters, the Main Building in Whitehall, is one of the largest government buildings in London.
Role
The MoD sets defence policy, decides how the forces are organised, equipped and paid for, and advises the government on military operations. It also looks after veterans and the families of those who serve.
Positions
In UKOGB the Ministry of Defence is run by members who hold its posts on the website. Its head is the Secretary of State for Defence, who can edit the organisation's page, appoint people to its other roles and speak for it in public. The current holders are shown in the box on this page and on the organisation's page on the website, and each post brings its own Discord roles and website permissions.
