History

The BBC was founded in 1922 and became a public corporation in 1927, paid for by the licence fee rather than by advertising. Its news service has a reputation for accuracy and impartiality that it guards closely.

Role

BBC News covers Parliament, the government and the parties, interviews ministers and the Opposition, and publishes news and analysis on the website. Its editor decides which members join it as journalists, subject to Ofcom's rules.

Positions

In UKOGB BBC News is run by members who hold its posts on the website. Its head is the Editor, BBC News, who can edit the organisation's page, appoint people to its other roles and speak for it in public. The current holders are shown in the box on this page and on the organisation's page on the website, and each post brings its own Discord roles and website permissions.
