The Cabinet Office is the government department that supports the Prime Minister and the Cabinet and makes sure government runs as one. It is led by the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.
History
The Cabinet Office was set up in 1916, during the First World War, when the Cabinet first began to keep minutes and needed a secretariat to organise its business. It has grown since into the department at the centre of government.
Role
The Cabinet Office organises the work of the Cabinet and its committees, keeps the record of their decisions and checks that departments carry them out. It also looks after the civil service, the constitution, elections policy and the government's own efficiency. In UKOGB its head can edit its page and manage its staff on the website.
Positions
In UKOGB the Cabinet Office is run by members who hold its posts on the website. Its head is the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, who can edit the organisation's page, appoint people to its other roles and speak for it in public. The current holders are shown in the box on this page and on the organisation's page on the website, and each post brings its own Discord roles and website permissions.
