The Home Office is the government department responsible for keeping the country safe: policing, crime, immigration, borders, passports and national security. It is led by the Home Secretary.
History
The Home Office was created in 1782, when the government's business was divided between a department for home affairs and one for foreign affairs. Over two centuries it has been responsible for everything from prisons to elections, and it remains one of the four Great Offices of State.
Role
The Home Office sets policy for the Police Service, decides who may come to live and work in the country and how the borders are controlled, and leads the government's work against terrorism and serious crime. Its bills on crime and immigration are often among the most debated in the House of Commons.
Positions
In UKOGB the Home Office is run by members who hold its posts on the website. Its head is the Home Secretary, who can edit the organisation's page, appoint people to its other roles and speak for it in public. The current holders are shown in the box on this page and on the organisation's page on the website, and each post brings its own Discord roles and website permissions.
