History
The Liberal Democrats were formed in 1988 by the merger of the Liberal Party, one of the great parties of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, with the Social Democratic Party. In UKOGB they won two seats in the House of Commons at the 2022 general election.
Beliefs
Liberal Democrats put individual freedom at the centre of their politics. They support a fair voting system in which seats match votes, protection of privacy and human rights, action on climate change and a strong economy that pays for good public services.
Organisation
The party is registered with the Electoral Commission, which publishes its donations, and its members elect its leader.
