The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is responsible for the courts, prisons, probation and the wider justice system. It is led by the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice.
History
The Ministry of Justice was created in 2007, taking on the work of the Lord Chancellor's department along with prisons and probation from the Home Office.
Role
The MoJ funds and oversees HM Courts and Tribunals Service, runs the prisons, and sets policy on sentencing, legal aid and the legal professions. It does not decide cases: the independence of the judges, led by the Lord Chief Justice, is protected by law, and the Lord Chancellor is sworn to defend it.
Positions
In UKOGB the Ministry of Justice is run by members who hold its posts on the website. Its head is the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, who can edit the organisation's page, appoint people to its other roles and speak for it in public. The current holders are shown in the box on this page and on the organisation's page on the website, and each post brings its own Discord roles and website permissions.
